Overview

stdnum is a JavaScript (TypeScript) package that validates most national numbers, with a focus on VAT, person and tax identifiers. Validators are organised by ISO country code; the README example uses the Brazilian CPF. The validate function returns isValid and, depending on the number, a detailed error, the compact form or flags such as isIndividual and isEntity.

For Italy, the README table lists three numbers: AIC (drug identification code), CODICEFISCALE (the codice fiscale for individuals) and IVA (the partita IVA). The README states that the library covers about half the countries in the world and is inspired by python-stdnum.

Highlights

  • Validators grouped in a namespace per ISO country code, for example stdnum.BR.cpf in the README example.
  • The validate result exposes isValid and a detailed error on failure; the CPF example also shows compact, isIndividual and isEntity.
  • Italy: AIC (drugs), CODICEFISCALE (persons) and IVA (partita IVA).
  • Stated coverage of about half the countries in the world, with a detailed table of supported numbers.

Who it is for

For JavaScript or TypeScript developers who need to check VAT numbers, tax or person identifiers from several countries, including the Italian partita IVA and codice fiscale.

Installation

The README gives no installation command. It only shows the import import { stdnum } from 'stdnum'. The repository’s package.json declares the package name stdnum, so the exact install command should be confirmed before publication.

Points of attention

  • The README’s “Examples” section is empty (“TODO”): only a short quick-start example is provided, using the Brazilian CPF.
  • For Italy, the README lists only three numbers (AIC, codice fiscale, partita IVA); IBAN does not appear.

Can an agent use it?

A conventional JavaScript/TypeScript library. No SKILL.md, AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md or MCP server found at the root. A .gemini folder containing a config.yaml file is present; its content was not read.
